    Dudhkunda trek is a rising trek of eastern Nepal on Khumbu region. It is a very well managed camping trek destination on Solukhumbu district situated at the base of Numbbur Himal. Dudhkunda meaning(Milky Lake) in English is a very religious and cultural site. The locals believe that taking a dip in the holy waters on the full moon of August will cleanse your sin and thus make you a holy person or spiritually clean. This place is rich in natural diversity and the local people are also very good and charming.

    Dudhkunda trek route is unexplored trekking destination, so very few tourists trek this place despite its great possibility. But for others, trekking in this region there are a lot of advantages. The locals such as Khaling Rai, Sherpa, Tamang, and Gurung are very friendly people and their hospitality will touch your heart.

    Dudhkunda trek starts with a flight to Phaplu and then to Salleri (district headquarter) –Takshindu via Ringmo village- Beni and Dudhkunda (5,000m). The trial will take you through rhododendron and sal forest. You can also encounter high altitude flora and fauna on your way along with beautiful picturesque scenery.

    Finally, when you reach Dudhkunda you can have a pristine view of Mt Everest (8848m) and the other Himalayas.

  • Detail Itinerary
    • Day one Kathmandu to Phaplu and to Chiwang (2,379m)

      Trekking time: 2 to 3 hrs

      We will today fly to Phaplu. After 25 minutes of the scenic flight, we will reach Phaplu. After resting for a while we will trek to Chiwang monastery.  Chiwang monastery is one of the most beautiful and historically oldest monasteries which is situated on the part of the astonishing rock. There is a good viewpoint from where we can see a significant view of Salleri bazar and pine forest of Solu. We will stay overnight here.

    • Day two Chiwang to Takshindu via Ringmo village (2,960m)

      Trekking time: 5 to 6 hrs

      After breakfast, we will trek to Takshidu from Chiwang monastery. It will take some 5 to 6 hours to reach there. Enroute you can enjoy with the superb Himalayas view of a Number range and diverse land topography. The trial then ascends through many Sherpa village and to Ringmo village. 

    • Day three Takshindu to Saharsbeni (3,835m)

      Trekking time: 5 to 6 hrs

      Today we will trek to Beni from Takshindu or Ringmo village. We will pass through the green dense forest of rhododendron and pine and other vegetation. It takes around 5 to 6 hours for us to reach there. We will stay overnight at Beni in our tent.

    • Day four Saharsbeni to Dudhkunda(4,560m)

      Trekking time: 5 to 6 hrs

      After breakfast, we will trek to Dudhkunda (our destination) from Beni. It will take some 5 to 6 hours for us to reach there. Dudhkunda has a very religious value among the locals and other people. This lake is situated at the foot of the Number Himal and still, a huge feast is organized on the full moon of August and other Occasion. We will stay overnight at our tent here.

    • Day five Rest day at Dudhkunda

      Today we will take a day off. We will rest and explore the surrounding of Dudhkunda. We will explore the local village, taste local delicacies, watch mighty and bold Himalayas and enjoy. 

    • Day Six Dudhkunda to Takshindu (2,960m)

      Trekking time: 7 to 8 hrs

      After breakfast, we will retrace the previous route and trek back to Ringmo village. It will take some 7 to 8 hours for us to reach there. Upon reaching there we can chat with locals, taste local delicacies and celebrate for our successful trek of Dudhkunda.

    • Day seven Takshindu to Phaplu (2,469m)

      Trekking time: 6 to 7 hrs

      Today is the last day of our trek so we will try to spend the day with having more fun and at ease. We will trek to Phaplu. It will take some 6 to 7 hours for us to reach there. We will stay overnight here at a local hotel.

    • Day eight Phaplu to Kathmandu(1,325)

      Today is the end of our trek. You will take an early morning joyful flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu.

    The following equipment lists are suggested and essential for both camping & teahouse treks in the Himalayas. Given this list as a guideline, most of the trekking equipment can be hired or bought in many adventure shops in Kathmandu as well. Besides, keep in mind that trekking gear can be bought in many adventure shops in Kathmandu, the majority of gear is locally manufactured (hence a lot cheaper) although it is becoming more common for gear to be imported from China and therefore of better quality.

    The following basic equipment list helps you with your packing. Please, remember that you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum level. Before starting the trek your packed trek bag should weigh no more than 33 pounds or 15kg.
