  • Detail Itinerary
    • Day 01 Drive from Kathmandu to Jiri and Jiri to bhandar

      Driving Time: 6 to 7 hrs
      Trekking Time: 2 to 3 hrs

      We will take an early morning drive to Jiri, about 187 km north-east of Kathmandu. It takes around 6-7 hours to reach Jiri. From Jiri, we will continue driving to Bhandar; our trek start point. This drive for Everest Jiri Trekking is great as you will be enjoying the nature all around you with green terraced farm, waterfalls, the Himalayas and the rivers. Overnight stay at Jiri.

       

    • Day 02 Bandar to Sete (2,575m)

      Trekking Time: 6 to 7 hrs

      The landscape in Jiri, it resembles to be like of Switzerland, we will start the trail from Bhandar through deep forests crossing a few streams passing the small settlements of Dokharpa and Baranda. Walk through the forests towards down to the Surma Khola. You will reach to Likhu Khola Valley. We climb the ridge for Kenja and ascend towards Chimbu. From Chimbu, we descend and walk forward, there comes a beautiful Sethe village where our destination for the day is. We would spend the night in a hotel/lodge

    • Day 03 Sete to Junbesi(2,670 m)

      Trekking Time: 6 to 7 hrs

      We will start our day by the uphill climb to Lamjura La through forests of pine, magnolia, maple; birch and rhododendrons. We pass by the villages of Dakchu and Goyem. Lamjura La pass is at 3530 meters, the highest point between Jiri and Namche Bazar, as we cross Lamjura, we reach Takhtor and we follow the Takhtor River. After walking for a while from here, we will arrive at Junbesi, the Sherpa village. Overnight at Junbesi. 

    • Day 04 Junbesi to Nunthala (2,220m)

      Trekking Time: 6 to 7 hrs

      We cross Junbeshi Khola from where we descend towards Phurteng. Phurteng will let you detain the views of Everest, Thamserku and Mera peaks. This is the first view of Everest on this trek, although the lower peaks look closer and higher than the distant 8,000 over mountains. Continue the trail to Salung and descend to Ringmo Khola.  In order to pass Ringmu, we do need to come over Taksindu La at 3670m height. After another hour's descent walk through conifer and rhododendron forests and terraced fields, we finally arrive at Nuntala. Overnight stay at Nuntala. 

    • Day 05 Nunthala to Bupsa (2,360 m)

      Trekking Time: 5 to 6 hrs

      From Nunthala, we head towards Bupsa following the ascending trails to the Dudh Koshi River. We follow the Dudh Koshi River as we head upward to Khumbu.  We will cross the bridge, climb to Jubing and continue straight to Chukha. We cross Khari Khola near Bupsa, heart touching view of Mount Khumbila can be seen from here. Another steep climb finally takes us to Bupsa. Overnight stay at Bupsa. 

    • Day 06 Bupsa to Surke (2,290m)

      Trekking Time: 5 to 6 hrs

      The trail from Bupsa rises through a forested stretch passing Kharte.  Further ahead comes a slippery trail, we pass by and again we cross a wooden bridge over Piya River From Kharte, an uphill climb takes us to Khari La pass. Enjoy the magnificent views of the Khari La pass of Gyachung Kang and Khumbila mountains. Walk to Puiyan and go through the ups and downs to Surke. Overnight stay at Surke. 

    • Day 07 Surke to Phakding(2,652m)

      Trekking Time:  4 to 5 hrs

      From Surke, our trail climbs toward Chaurikharka. We walk steadily from here and cross a bridge over Kamswaya River. Along the way, we find monasteries and Chhorten and finally arrive at Phakding. Overnight stay at Phakding. 

    • Day 08 Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

      Trekking Time:  5 to 6 hrs

      Walking through a beautiful pine forest, the track leads us along the Dudh Koshi River through many suspension bridges, Passing by Rimshung Monastery and Uchhecholing Monastery; we climb up along the trail and visit Sagarmatha National Park. We pass through the last village of Jorsale before reaching Namche Bazaar. After a final steep ascent of about two hours, we get first sight of Mt. Everest peering over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. We still need to hike about 1/2 hours to reach Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is the main gateway to Everest, you will find colorful Khumbu villages, Banks, Money Exchanger, Internet café and overall all the facilities you can find in a city. We stay overnight in Namche Bazaar

    • Day 09 Acclimatization Rest day at Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

      This day is the rest day as we need enough Trekking Time for acclimatization. Experts and the doctors always recommend us to stay active and moving during the rest day too instead of being idle. We either spend the day taking a day hike to Thame or visiting Khunde or relaxing and exploring Namche Bazaar itself. Or our guides will take us to the Tourist Visitor Center near the headquarter of the Sagarmatha National Park where we can observe an assortment of things related to the first Everest ascenders, Sherpa culture. We can also take an interesting side trip up to Khumjung. We also can visit Hillary School which is at the same site. Overnight in Namche Bazaar. 

    • Day 10 Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,870m)

      Trekking Time:  5 to 6 hrs

      After breakfast in Namche, we start our trek towards Tengboche enjoying some amazing view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and close up view of Thamserku. Along the way, we can spot some wild animals such as pheasant, musk deer, or a herd of Himalayan Thar. The trail goes gradually down up to Kayangjuma. The path eventually reaches Sansa which is the major trail junction to Gokyo valley and Everest Base Camp.  Moving forward, we pass by an Army Barrack at Phunke Tenga and arrive at Tengboche.  Tengboche is a great place for close up views of Ama-Dablam, Nuptse, and Everest and it has a big Buddhist Monastery. Overnight stay at lodge in Tengboche. 

    • Day 11 Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m)

      Trekking Time: 5 to 6 hrs

      We can snap some pictures of the monastery and the sceneries around and get started for our trek. Ascending along with the stone steps, we see the National Park Head Office as we pass by. We may choose the upper trail for better views and to visit Pangboche village and its ancient Monastery. We pass through several Chorten and Mani walls and small villages. Walking over some flat trails, surpassing tea shops, we arrive at Dingboche  Overnight in Dingboche. 

    • Day 12 Rest day in Dingboche(4,360)

      Today you have a rest day for acclimatization. We can have a trip to Chukkung valley t5o have a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. Return to Dingboche in the evening. Overnight stay at a guesthouse.  

    • Day 13 Dingboche to Lobuche (4,940 m)

      Trekking Time: 2 to 4 hrs       

      Today we start our trek from Dingboche. The trail drops to the Khumbu Glacier moraine, we find ourselves right "in front of" several great peaks - Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. Now begin to feel a little out of breath due to high altitude. After a certain walk, we reach to Lobuche. Overnight in Lobuche. 

    • Day 14 Lobuche Gorak Shep (5,170m) Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) Gorak Shep

      Trekking Time: 7 to 8 hrs

      The trail to Gorak Shep goes ahead through the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. This is the closest you can go without gear on Mount Everest. Ahead on the trail, we will see crest of north ridge of Everest along with Mt. Pumori, Mahalangur, Lingtern, Khumbutse, Nuptse, etc.. Climbing steeply up to the top through the torrent of Changri glacier, we catch our first glimpse of Kala Patthar, a grey-green knoll beneath the Mt. Pumori. As we reach Gorak Shep, we will be surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Overnight stay at a guest house.

    • Day 15 Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) to Pheriche (4,280 m)

      This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek. This will start early in the morning to catch the dramatic views from Kala Patthar witnessing the first light of day shining on Mount Everest. There is always the potential for chilly winds which are quite common. Familiar peaks such as Lingtren, Khumbutse, Changtse tower to the east. Everest begins to reveal itself emerging between the west view which seems to be breath taking. We descend down to Pheriche for a good night's rest. Overnight in Pheriche. 

    • Day 16 Pheriche to Tengboche to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

      Trekking Time: 5 to 6 hrs

      today we will start our trek down through the hillside followed by rhododendron and juniper trees. After crossing the prayer flag and bridge over the Dudh Koshi river. The trail then follows the Dudh Koshi gorge descending rapidly through the pine forests.  We retrace our route back to Tengboche. After that the trail to Namche Bazaar clings to the steep wooded slope beyond Kyangjuma after walking some distance, we will reach the army camp at of Namche Bazaar.  Overnight stay in Namche Bazaar. 

    • Day 17 Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,800m)

      Trekking Time: 6 to 8 hrs

      Today we walk down from Namche; we pass the Everest viewpoint and Larja Dobhan. The trail is steeply downward so we need to walk slowly and under control. After that, we cross the suspension bridges over Dudh Koshi. We walk through the Sherpa villages we will enjoy the last memories of our trek with verdant greeneries all around. We will visit around the Lukla and also reconfirm the flight ticket. Overnight in Lukla. 

    • Day 18 Lukla to Kathmandu(1,325)

      We will fly back to Kathmandu. It will take around 30 to 40 minutes. You might feel exhausted by a long mountain trekking so you can rest and relax throughout the day in your hotel. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

  • The following equipment lists are suggested and essential for both camping & teahouse treks in the Himalayas. Given this list as a guideline, most of the trekking equipment can be hired or bought in many adventure shops in Kathmandu as well. Besides, keep in mind that trekking gear can be bought in many adventure shops in Kathmandu, the majority of gear is locally manufactured (hence a lot cheaper) although it is becoming more common for gear to be imported from China and therefore of better quality.

    This day is the rest day as we need enough Trekking Time for acclimatization. Experts and the doctors always recommend us to stay active and moving during the rest day too instead of being idle. We either spend the day taking a day hike to Thame or visiting Khunde or relaxing and exploring Namche Bazaar itself. Or our guides will take us to the Tourist Visitor Center near the headquarter of the Sagarmatha National Park where we can observe an assortment of things related to the first Everest ascenders, Sherpa culture. We can also take an interesting side trip up to Khumjung. We also can visit Hillary School which is at the same site. Overnight in Namche Bazaar. 

  • Day 10 Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,870m)

    Trekking Time:  5 to 6 hrs

    After breakfast in Namche, we start our trek towards Tengboche enjoying some amazing view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and close up view of Thamserku. Along the way, we can spot some wild animals such as pheasant, musk deer, or a herd of Himalayan Thar. The trail goes gradually down up to Kayangjuma. The path eventually reaches Sansa which is the major trail junction to Gokyo valley and Everest Base Camp.  Moving forward, we pass by an Army Barrack at Phunke Tenga and arrive at Tengboche.  Tengboche is a great place for close up views of Ama-Dablam, Nuptse, and Everest and it has a big Buddhist Monastery. Overnight stay at lodge in Tengboche. 

  • Day 11 Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m)

    Trekking Time: 5 to 6 hrs

    We can snap some pictures of the monastery and the sceneries around and get started for our trek. Ascending along with the stone steps, we see the National Park Head Office as we pass by. We may choose the upper trail for better views and to visit Pangboche village and its ancient Monastery. We pass through several Chorten and Mani walls and small villages. Walking over some flat trails, surpassing tea shops, we arrive at Dingboche  Overnight in Dingboche. 

  • Day 12 Rest day in Dingboche(4,360)

    Today you have a rest day for acclimatization. We can have a trip to Chukkung valley t5o have a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. Return to Dingboche in the evening. Overnight stay at a guesthouse.  

  • Day 13 Dingboche to Lobuche (4,940 m)

    Trekking Time: 2 to 4 hrs       

    Today we start our trek from Dingboche. The trail drops to the Khumbu Glacier moraine, we find ourselves right "in front of" several great peaks - Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. Now begin to feel a little out of breath due to high altitude. After a certain walk, we reach to Lobuche. Overnight in Lobuche. 

  • Day 14 Lobuche Gorak Shep (5,170m) Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) Gorak Shep

    Trekking Time: 7 to 8 hrs

    The trail to Gorak Shep goes ahead through the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. This is the closest you can go without gear on Mount Everest. Ahead on the trail, we will see crest of north ridge of Everest along with Mt. Pumori, Mahalangur, Lingtern, Khumbutse, Nuptse, etc.. Climbing steeply up to the top through the torrent of Changri glacier, we catch our first glimpse of Kala Patthar, a grey-green knoll beneath the Mt. Pumori. As we reach Gorak Shep, we will be surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Overnight stay at a guest house.

  • Day 15 Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) to Pheriche (4,280 m)

    This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek. This will start early in the morning to catch the dramatic views from Kala Patthar witnessing the first light of day shining on Mount Everest. There is always the potential for chilly winds which are quite common. Familiar peaks such as Lingtren, Khumbutse, Changtse tower to the east. Everest begins to reveal itself emerging between the west view which seems to be breath taking. We descend down to Pheriche for a good night's rest. Overnight in Pheriche. 

  • Day 16 Pheriche to Tengboche to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

    Trekking Time: 5 to 6 hrs

    today we will start our trek down through the hillside followed by rhododendron and juniper trees. After crossing the prayer flag and bridge over the Dudh Koshi river. The trail then follows the Dudh Koshi gorge descending rapidly through the pine forests.  We retrace our route back to Tengboche. After that the trail to Namche Bazaar clings to the steep wooded slope beyond Kyangjuma after walking some distance, we will reach the army camp at of Namche Bazaar.  Overnight stay in Namche Bazaar. 

  • Day 17 Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,800m)

    Trekking Time: 6 to 8 hrs

    Today we walk down from Namche; we pass the Everest viewpoint and Larja Dobhan. The trail is steeply downward so we need to walk slowly and under control. After that, we cross the suspension bridges over Dudh Koshi. We walk through the Sherpa villages we will enjoy the last memories of our trek with verdant greeneries all around. We will visit around the Lukla and also reconfirm the flight ticket. Overnight in Lukla. 

  • Day 18 Lukla to Kathmandu(1,325)

    We will fly back to Kathmandu. It will take around 30 to 40 minutes. You might feel exhausted by a long mountain trekking so you can rest and relax throughout the day in your hotel. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

Equipment List - Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek - (20 days)

The following equipment lists are suggested and essential for both camping & teahouse treks in the Himalayas. Given this list as a guideline, most of the trekking equipment can be hired or bought in many adventure shops in Kathmandu as well. Besides, keep in mind that trekking gear can be bought in many adventure shops in Kathmandu, the majority of gear is locally manufactured (hence a lot cheaper) although it is becoming more common for gear to be imported from China and therefore of better quality.
