Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve is a very beautiful wildlife habitat which lies in the floodplain of Saptakoshi River in the Southeastern Terai. The reserve was formed to preserve wild water buffalo or Arna and other endangered animals. Covering 176 square km of area,
Koshi Tappu Wildlife reserve is a wetland of international significance. The reserve is home to 20 different wildlife species including Hog deer, wild boar, spotted deer, blue bull and rock python. Some 480 species of birds-many seen nowhere on Nepal has been recorded here. The Koshi barrage is an extremely important resting place for many migratory birds so it is considered a paradise for bird watching.
The tours to Koshi Tappu Wildlife reserve starts with taking a bus to Biratnagar or fly Biratnagar and reach Kushaha via Jamuwa. At Kushaha we can stay at a hotel and start our tour.
We will start our tour by taking a flight to Biratnagar. From birathnagar, we can take a vehicle and go to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. After reaching there we will rest and explore the surrounding.
After breakfast, we will set you for a full day excursion on boat and four wheels drive to see spotted deers, Wild water buffalo or Arna, birds of prey, Endangered Gharial crocodile, wild water buffalo and Gangetic Dolphins including a visit to Pink Tower.
Today after your breakfast we will go to watch birds inside the reserve in the scrub forest, grasslands and wetland habitat. We may see endangered swamp partridge, black-necked stork, buntings, bulbuls, and Bengal florican. In the afternoon you can either continue bird watching or enjoy optional elephant ride to watch Arna, the wild water buffalo, blue bull, hog deer, fishing, etc.
Early morning you can either enjoy bird watching around the camp area or have a leisure walk. After breakfast, we will depart to Kathmandu.
